Hands down the most popular and well known beach in the Lakes Region, Weirs Beach lies in the northern corner of Laconia on Lake Winnipesaukee. It’s not just a beach but a focal point of activities, recreation, and where many attractions are located. With an unusual density of arcades, it’s also an exceptional place to bring the kids. Next to the beach along Lakeside Ave lies the boardwalk. Rebuilt in 2010, the boardwalk is over 1300 feet long and offers amazing views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the Ossipee mountains.
In the summer, Gunstock is an adventure park. You can go zip-lining, compete in the aerial obstacle course with more than 90 different challenges, take a ride on a mountain roller coaster, and ride the chairlift for scenic views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the surrounding area. In the winter, Gunstock Mountain Resort is one of the best NH ski resorts in the Lakes Region, offering quality skiing for skiers of all abilities, including kids and families. The frozen views of Lake Winnipesaukee are extraordinary!
With several mountains to choose from in the Lake Winnipesaukee area, nearly all of them offer stunning views of the surrounding lakes from above. West Rattlesnake Mountain is a small mountain with views of Squam Lake. There are 12 great hiking trails, including Old Bridle Path, a 3.7-mile out and back hike with great lake views.Mount Major is located in the town of Alton and has several excellent hiking trails. The Mount Major Trail, the Brook Trail, and Boulder Loop all lead to the mountain’s summit with excellent views of the lake from the top. Mount Morgan, 3.9 miles in length and near the town of Holderness, has a more challenging trail better suited for more experienced hikers, and pays off with views of Squam Lake and Mount Major. Mount Percival is an almost 5-mile trail also near the town of Holderness. The last part of the trail is mostly rocks and ledges, making it a challenging final portion to a trail that seemed moderate at first. If you’re an experienced hiker, put Mount Percival on your list.
